Using Employees To Help Recruiting
It can be a dog-eat-dog world out there when it comes to recruiting, and your current employees might just be the secret to connecting with the top talent. Involving employees in the recruiting process taps into their skills while developing a collaborative culture.
According to an article in the Harvard Business Review, a survey shows that over 70 percent of millennials hear about prospective jobs through friends, beating out job boards and on-campus job fairs. You’d be missing out if you don’t tap into that opportunity.
One of the best ways to use employees to recruit new talent is to find out what they like to do, and then integrate those interests with casual recruiting.
This is a powerful tool for recruitment. Although your company may, and should have, a presence on social media sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram, your employees, collectively, have access to many more potential employees. Encourage your staff to (positively) mention their workplace on their news feeds and to post notifications when your company is looking for recruits. Social media posts are optimized for sharing, so word-of-mouth information like this can spread quickly and land in the right person’s lap. Make it easy for employees by providing a clear description and explaining the idea candidate.
Blogs, employee-created videos for YouTube or your company blog, and staff member forums are all excellent channels for personal interaction on the Internet. If it feels too risky to have employees be brand advocates on their social channels, then take a lesson from the technology company Dell and have employees get certified in social media before they can post on the company’s feed.
Many of your employees probably network at professional events such as conferences, gala dinners, or trade shows. Ask them to keep on the lookout for potential employees and to share your company’s contact details with them. Make sure employees are always aware of new openings, so that they be ready to talk about them if appropriate.
Reward & Incentivize
Implement a referral bonus program to thank employees for their help. When employees help you recruit, they are saving you time and resources, so the company should recognize that contribution.
